How I started learning "Deutsch"?

Updated: May 18, 2022

"Eine andere Sprache ist eine andere Vision des Leben" | Federico Fellini.

I started learning German in 2013 when I was in 8th grade. Then I pursue my learning for another year in 2014, in 9th grade. After I got my Junior High school certificate, they assigned me to a scientific 10th grade, and we only had English as a second language. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time or the opportunity to continue learning German on my own either. As a result, I gradually forgot everything I had learned during those two years. It's sad because, being very interested in language learning, I had a lot of ease and was also very enthusiastic.

7 years later, I was looking for a new language to learn besides French, English and Chinese, which I mastered well. At first I hesitated between Portuguese and Spanish, then my choice finally felt on German. I thought it would be nice to pick up where I left off and continue my learning. Some friends of mine often ask me why German? It is not the most spoken language, and it is something quite complicated to learn. With its "der, die, das". Even Robert Person said:

Life is too short to learn German.

Not that wrong... But it is also a challenge for me. And notice that even if it is not the most spoken language, it is one of the language of the future according to The Language Doctors. So, I started again a few months ago. Currently, I'm learning by myself on German Pod 101 until I can enroll in an appropriate structure like the Goëthe Institute and find a language partner to speed up my learning. My goal is to pass the Goëthe Zertifikät by the end of 2022. I also use some apps like Drops or Seedlang. If you are on YouTube, I would recommend the Hallo Deutschschule channel, which offers interactive, very interesting and educational videos.

Have you ever planned or are you currently learning the German language? What are your tips for mastering this language? Let me know in the comment! May God bless you, take care!
