The magic circle.

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

Hi my people! I hope you're all doing good? I am very honored to introduce to you my new project which I chosed to call “Mouniirah's Experiment”. The principle states simply: test with you small, accessible and simple experiments, while having fun. The first episode is The Magic Circle. I won't tell you more. I'll let you discover what it's all about in the video below. Thanks for joining me.

  • What you'll need:

    1. A bowl,

    2. A piece of string,

    3. Water,

    4. A cotton swab,

    5. Liquid dish soap.

  • Instructions:

    1. Fill the dish halfway up with water,

    2. Tie the ends of the string to make a circle out of it,

    3. Float the string on the water, it should take its circular shape,

    4. Dip a cotton swab in liquid dish soap and dip its soapy end inside the floating string,

    5. The string will very quickly become a perfect circle.

  • How it works:

We often hear about objects that allow us to get rid of tensions, in this case, it is the liquid dish soap that plays this role. The molecules on the surface of the water are bound together -forming a kind of skin- by the tension on the surface. The soap manages to insinuate itself between the water molecules and then breaks this skin. As these excercise equal forces over the entire circumference of the twine circle, they cause it to take on a perfect circular shape.
